Todo el mundo sabe que los elfos son tan arrogantes como inmortales y por eso les gusta que se los retrate. Además, ansían el arte de los humanos porque ellos son incapaces de crear algo que transmita vida. Isobel los conoce bien, pues se gana la vida pintando sus rostros.

Pero un día el príncipe del otoño entra en su taller y, al retratarlo, comete un terrible error: plasma en sus ojos el dolor humano que percibe en su mirada, un rasgo que cualquiera de sus súbditos consideraría una debilidad.

Tras recibir el cuadro, el príncipe regresa convertido en cuervo y la acusa de traicionarlo ante su corte. La única manera de solucionarlo es que Isobel se adentre con él en las tierras del otoño para restaurar su reputación. No obstante, deberá tener cuidado: como afirman los elfos, siempre deseamos lo que tiene el poder de destruirnos.

 

Opinión:

Un encantamiento de Cuervos es un libro con una portada exquisita que llama muchísimo la atención, sobretodo a gente que como yo muchas veces compramos el libro por su portada.  También hay que sumarle el tema; cuervos, elfos y magia.

En este caso nos encontramos con Isobel una pintora con mucho talento. Vive en Extravagancia, un lugar donde humanos y elfos conviven y ella se dedica a retratar a dichos elfos y ellos a cambio le hacen regalos un tanto peculiares, como hechizar a sus gallinas para que tengan más huevos. Hasta que un día recibe la visita del príncipe de la Corte de Otoño y tiene que pintarle un retrato. Durante ese tiempo vemos una cierta progresión en la historia y la manera de relacionarse de ambos personajes. Una vez termina el cuadro, ve que ha plasmado sentimientos humanos en sus ojos, hecho que lo hace vulnerable ante los demás. Entonces él viene a buscarla convertido en cuervo y se la lleva a las tierras élficas para infringirle castigo. Y hasta aquí puedo hablar.

La trama e historia creada por la escritora es muy buena, pero se queda a medias en la ejecución. Hay muchos conceptos que nos quedan a medias. Por ejemplo, no sabemos exactamente qué es Extravagancia, pueblo, ciudad? Tampoco se sabe cómo vive la gente allí, a parte del hecho de que se dedican al arte. También está el tema de la relación de elfos y humanos, no se sabe cuándo empezó o porqué, ni por qué los primeros codician tanto el arte humano. También menciona el Otro Mundo pero no sabemos en ningún momento qué es y qué le diferencia del mundo en el que vive Isobel. La descripción de las Cortes y el mundo de los elfos y las leyes que lo rigen también queda a medias. Creo que el problema que tiene este libro es que es demasiado corto. La historia se desarrolla a buen ritmo hasta que llega a la mitad donde todo queda diluido hasta los últimos capítulos, donde vuelve la acción.

En conclusión, la idea del libro es muy buena pero le hace falta más desarrollo. Es una pena puesto que tenía todo para crear uno de los mejores libros del año, pero se quedó corto. Le hace falta mucha profundidad en temas importantes como la ambientación.

Opinion:

An enchantment of Ravens is a book with an exquisite cover that catches a lot of attention, especially to people who, like me, often buy the book for its cover. We must also add the subject; ravens, elves and magic.

In this case we find Isobel a very talented artist. She lives in Extravaganza, a place where humans and elves live together and she dedicates herself to portraying these elves and in return they give her peculiar gifts, such as bewitching their chickens so that they have more eggs. Until one day she receives the visit of the prince of the Autumn Court and has to paint his portrait. During that time we see a certain progression in the story and the way of relating of both characters. Once the painting is over, he sees that she has expressed human feelings in his eyes, a fact that makes him vulnerable to others. Then he comes to take her turned into a raven and takes her to the Elven lands to inflict her some kind of punishment. And until here I can talk.

The plot and story created by the writer is very good, but is halfway in the execution. There are many concepts that we have left half. For example, we do not know exactly what is Extravaganza, town, city? Nor is it known how people live there, apart from the fact that they are dedicated to art. There is also the theme of the relationship of elves and humans, it is not known when it began or why, nor why the elves covet so much human art. It also mentions the Other World but we do not know in any moment what it is and what differentiates it from the world in which Isobel lives. The description of the Courts and the world of elves and the laws that govern it are also half-explained. I think the problem with this book is that it is too short. The story develops at a good pace until it reaches the middle where everything is diluted until the last chapters, where the action returns.

In conclusion, the idea of ​​the book is very good but it needs more development. It's a shame since she had all to create one of the best books of the year, but it fell short. It needs a lot of depth on important topics such as its setting.
