Taj es el más talentoso de los aki, pero su medio de vida tiene un precio terrible. Cuando mata a una bestia del pecado, un tatuaje con la forma de esa bestia aparece en su piel mientras que la culpa de esa falta se materializa en su mente. La mayoría de los aki no tardan en sucumbir a la locura, sin embargo Taj, a sus 17 años, es arrogante y está desesperado por ayudar a dar sustento a su familia. Así que cuando se le ordena devorar el pecado de un miembro de la realeza no se lo piensa dos veces. Lo que no espera es verse arrastrado a una oscura conspiración…

Escogí leer este libro sobretodo por la preciosa portada que tiene. Sí, soy de esas personas que muchas veces compran un libro por la portada. Obviamente, antes de comprarlo leí la sinopsis y me pareció muy interesante.


El mundo creado por Tochi Onyebuchi es muy completo, no le faltan detalles y el concepto de los aki es, para mi gusto, genial. Como ya se puede leer en la sinopsis, los aki son devoradores de pecados y cuando los devoran, éstos se transforman en tatuajes en su cuerpo en forma de animales, cuanto más grande el pecado más grande el tatuaje.


A los personajes les falta profundidad. Por ejemplo, Taj, que es el protagonista, aunque es familiar y generoso y no dudaría en ayudar a un amigo, es muy arrogante y creído lo que hace que no acabes de congeniar con él. Además, tampoco se puede decir mucho más de él, sus motivaciones son muy planas. Con el resto de personajes pasa lo mismo. No me acabé de identificar con ninguno de ellos ya que tampoco se acaban de entender sus motivaciones ni el porqué actúan de una manera o otra.


Si nos centramos en la trama, aunque el mundo creado y el concepto son muy buenos en el fondo no pasa nada. Al principio te dan un poco de acción, cosa que hace que te enganches al momento, pero a partir de allí es todo muy plano. Solo encontramos explicaciones de todo el universo pero en cuanto a la trama, cuando parece que vas a descubrir algo que lo haría interesante, se pierde. Soy de esas personas que les gusta que la intensidad vaya aumentando desde la primera página y en este caso no ha sido así.


En conclusión, las ideas y el mundo creado son muy buenos. Le falta un poco de profundidad en los personajes y más acción. Espero que en la segunda parte es lo que encontremos y que esta primera parte haya sido la introductoria a toda la trama que vendrá después.

I chose to read this book especially for its beautiful cover. Yes, I am one of those people who often buy a book by the cover. Obviously, before buying it I read the plot and it seemed very interesting.


The world created by Tochi Onyebuchi is very complete, it does not lack details and the concept of the aki is, in my opinion, great. As you can read in the plot, the aki are devourers of sins and when they devour them, these are transformed into tattoos on his body in the form of animals, the bigger the sin, the bigger the tattoo gets.


The characters lack depth. For example, Taj, who is the protagonist, although he is familiar and generous and would not hesitate to help a friend, is very arrogant and conceited what makes you not to get along with him. Also, you can not say much more about him either, his motivations are very flat. With the rest of the characters the same thing happens. I didn’t get identified with any of them because you couldn’t understand their motivations or why they act in one way or another.


If we focus on the plot, although the world and the concept created are very good, in the background nothing happens. At first you get a little action, which makes you hook up at the moment, but from there it’s all very flat. We only find explanations of the whole universe but in terms of the plot, when it seems that you are going to discover something that would make it interesting, it gets lost. I am one of those people who like the intensity to increase from the first page and, in this case, it has not been like that.


In conclusion, the ideas and the world created are very good. It lacks a bit of depth in the characters and more action. I hope that in the second part we can find it and that this first part was the introduction to the whole story that will come later.
